Today I have developed the designs for the front of the packaging of all 4 of the candles as well as the designs for the sides of the packaging. Following yesterdays mockup and test experiments against the candles that I purchased, I decided to change the height of the packaging box to 10cm, which is also the same as the width.
This was applied to the dragonfly front packaging design that I have been working on which is now refined, the same design rules, grids and details were applied to the fronts of the other 3 boxes; The Asian Lady Beetle, The Mayfly and The Monarch butterfly, it's important that all of the 4 designs follow the same layouts and design rules as they are part of the same collection.
The front of the box focuses more on close up textures and patterns of the insect compared to the more illustrative imagery used on the labels, however these illustrations are also combined with the textures on the front. The front also shows the main information about the candle as well as the Oliver Bonas logo.
I have also developed the designs for the sides of the packaging. The main information about the candle is included on the front and there will also be more text on the back, so the sides should be more minimal or image based. The initial ideas for the sides focus on using the same illustration on the sides as the top, repeated pattern using illustration, close up texture designs and experimenting with scales of the illustrations.

The design that I decided to go with for the sides uses a large scale image of the more detailed illustrations that represent each insect. Peer feedback suggested that this was the most successful design for the sides as the busier aesthetic looks more cosy and interior appropriate, I also agree with this.
