Today I have started to develop designs for the candle packaging box. I decided to stick with my initial idea for the dimensions of the packaging box which is 10cm x 10cm for the top and bottom and 12.5cm height x 10cm width for the front, back and sides. I felt this size also worked well with the smaller label designs as well as the candle's that I will purchase which I think will be around 10cm height.

Below shows the development stages of the packaging box design for the Dragonfly candle. The brief mentions that the Oliver Bonas logo needs to be used on the top or front of the box, I decided to use it on the front as this is what the consumer pays more attention to rather than the top of the box. The designs use a different background colour to the label design in order to create a bold contrast and look more exciting than just using the same colour, the box design uses the same overall colour palette as the label to create consistency.
The box design focuses more on close up textures that are found within the insects body and features, the brief states that the designs should have a focus on
texture, surfaces and natural surroundings. The front also combines these textures with some of the smaller, more detailed illustrations that are used on the label to tie them both together and make the design look busier.

3. Further developed design with more information and background imagery: the name of the candle, the name of the range, burn time and candle weight- information needed on typical candles. I also felt that including a burn time increases sales. The imagery on the front was developed through adding illustrations of the dragonfly's alongside the textures.

5. The design below shows the front rectangle developed through making it a shorter square as I felt that there was too much blank space in the rectangle (see above designs). However, I found that I didn't like the square design as much as the box felt too narrow and squished.

6. The design was then developed through changing the box with the information in back to a rectangle shape, peer feedback also suggested that this looked better. I added more content to the box and spaced out the text more so that the box didn't look as empty

Furthermore, for the top of the box I decided to keep the design minimal as most of the information and content will be on the front, sides and back of the box. The top of the box uses the insect icon that is used on the label design, tying the two together whilst creating consistency and an overall sleek design.
