Label and Packaging Tests

This afternoon I went and bought candles to use for this brief. The brief doesn't state that actual candles need to be used and it doesn't specify sizes for the vessels, however I wanted to show the designs used in context and will be printing the packaging and labels instead of just submitting mockups, I felt that showing designs in context is important and I also enjoy design for print in general.

Before purchasing the candles, I printed mockups of the labels and packaging design so that I could measure the candles that I find alongside these so that the candles are the right size for them. It was also useful to print these out at this point so that I can see if anything needs changing such as text that may be too small and hard to read.

Packaging front test

Below shows the labels and packaging design with the candles that I bought, I visited several shops to find candles that were the right size before deciding which ones to buy. Originally, my plan was to buy 4 candles that were different colours, however I couldn't find 4 from the same store that matched the colours of the labels so I decided to stick to two candle colours that did match the labels.

These candles fitted the labels perfectly, however the packaging box was a little too tall for the candle, leaving too much room at the top. When I develop the designs for the packaging, I will shorten the height from 12.5cm to 10cm so the candle fits better, this will make the packaging box a cube shape which I prefer anyway.
