| Our invoice template |
It was quite easy for my group to create our invoice template as I have already sent one to a client in the past before so I remembered most of what was on it and the most important parts that an invoice needs to include.
Contracts are important because they are an opportunity for both parties to clarify the scope of work taking place and it becomes your responsibility to deliver.
Terms should include:
- Start and finish date with hourly or daily rate
- What exactly the work is (number of concepts, outcomes etc)
- Who will be involved
- Payment amount + scheduled payment dates
- Who owns the work after/copyright
- Additional costs for changes and how many theire allowed (up to 3?)
- Will the designer get a share of future profits (detailed in payments?)
- Unexpected events such as illness etc- what will happen instead
- Are they producing it/ giving a quote for printers etc
- Client approvals
- Samples- if you use stock or audio etc, you need to credit where you got it from
- Credit- if they post the work somewhere e.g. Instagram, the designer should get credited
- Consequences of non-payment
- Duration- how long can they use the work for
- Location- if it expands overseas
- File requirements- JPEG, PDF etc
