Initial Ideas/Research

Nikita has now sent over the moodboards for her personal branding that I will be designing. The moodboards contain ideas and designs for how she'd like the logo, business cards and packaging to look, these moodboards from her were really useful as it has allowed me to see the type of aesthetic that the designs should follow which represent her design practice.

During the initial chat with Nikita, she mentioned that she wants the logo and business cards to look minimal, sleek and professional which is think is also very suited to her work.

Things to consider for the logo and business card design when looking through the moodboard:

  • Baby pink/blush pink, white and black colour palette
  • Circle idea is most interesting
  • Wrap text around the circle
  • Consider using 'NSJ' (Nikita's initials) for the main logo text, with additional text such as 'Nikita Sarah Johnson' or 'Photography' in smaller text alongside it
  • Consider different logotypes for the business card for the front and back- I assume they will be double sided business cards which I will discucss with Nikita depending on her budget
  • Sans Serif is more minimal, however I think a serif might look more sleek and feminine which Nikita also likes, play around with both
  • Calligraphy? not a big fan but could look interesting if used subtly

Below shows a moodboard that Nikita sent for packaging- the packaging would include her prints and business card which she would be able to send out to studios she wants to work for. I really like the idea of them being packaged in a portfolio box like this as it looks professional and will definitely keep the prints safe and prevent them from bending in the post for example.

The box would need her logo on somewhere, ideally the logo would be printed onto the box however this wouldn't be possible in the future when we don't have facilities for screen printing etc. The alternative was to find portfolio boxes online which can be personalised during the order process or to use a sticker with her logo on.

During my meet up with Nikita last time, we also discussed a photoshoot for the panda t-shirts that I will be creating for The Panda Project brief that I am currently working on. Below shows a moodboard which she sent through for the shoot which I loved, I also like the idea of solo shots of people in the t-shirts as well as group shots, this shows a good variation and will make the overall shoot more interesting.

I have sketched out some initial ideas for Nikita's logo which takes into consideration everything she has sent through as well my own ideas of ways to display her name and initials. The ideas consist of joining the 'NSJ' together, using it within a circle with text curved around, different text weights and sizes within one design, extending letters and fitting the text around shapes.
