Yesterday afternoon I went into town to gathered some first hand research on candles, this included actual candle vessels, the stickers on them, the packaging and additional detailing such as shape and information cards attached to the candles. I visited homeware shops that I felt would have a wide selection of candles as well as clothing retail shops as they often include homeware and gift sections, the most useful shops that I visited were TK Maxx, Home Sense, JOY and Clintons.
It was interesting to see packaging that used techniques such as foiling and embossing, I definitely want to use these techniques within the packaging that I create as well. I also enjoyed the candles that used interesting shapes for the actual vessels such as the Pineapple and the circular shaped candles as well as candle boxes that were larger than typical candle packaging. Uniqueness makes the candle a lot more intriguing and makes it stand out against other candles that are displayed with it on a shelf.
Furthermore, the candles that used patterns and shapes on the actual candle vessels looked really beautiful and is something that I want to experiment with- I'm not sure if I'd actually be able to print onto the candle so an alternative would be to use clear sticker paper with designs on that would be stuck onto the candle.
