Since my focus/concept for the candle designs is going to focus on insects within nature during Spring and Summer, I have started to gather some further research on specific insects, their surroundings and nature textures that could be used within the designs that relate to them. The candles will feature in the Oliver Bonas SS20 Tierra range so I have decided to focus on 4 different insects that appear in Spring and Summer (for the 4 candle designs).
The insects that I have chosen are:
- 1. Asian lady beetle
- Monarch butterfly
- Mayfly
- Dragonfly
I have chosen these insects in particular insects can often be quite uncomfortable for people to look at and experience, so instead I chosen Spring/Summer insects that have a calming and beautiful aesthetic to them.
The brief mentions that the designs should communicate and use 'Subtle colour combinations and matte pigment tones offer a calming and harmonious approach to this season.' as well as an overall 'soothing but eye-catching'. I felt that these insects were appropriate to this aesthetic as they have a feminine, soothing feel to them- especially because of their delicate wings, features and beautiful patterns. Throughout the designs, I will focus on the patterns and textures within these insects and their physical features as well as their full forms and shapes. I will also use textures and patterns inspired by their homes and surroundings as this relates to nature as well as each of these 4 insect.
