Notes and things to consider for portfolio:
- Mix in different medias- animations, photographs, illustrations, have a variation
- Show a real variety of stuff
- If a final outcome is weak, go back and fix or extend it (particularly for projects in the past that you're not 100% happy with but still want to use in your portfolio)
- "your portfolio is only as good as the weakest project"
- Set up a simple grid system that allows you to use large images and text (doesn't need loads of text though just headings and additional info if needed)
- Involve client work and state that it was client work (my role was to design..... for.....)
- Content doesn't have to be complex, but it must be considered
- Type is important, but it shouldn't detract from the work
- Simplicity and impact. Don't overload. If sending over for a placement, even 4 projects would be enough.
- Less is more, but be sure that your images tell the story of the project. the images must be of high standard
- Always include your contact details, slide towards the end (email, phone number and website)
- Try to show something different or new in each project
- Establish a consistent tone of voice
- Export your tailored portfolio at less than 4mb (small PDF)
- Spell and grammar check!!!
- Follow up!
