Crit

Today we were able to sign up to optional crits for Extended practice with Amber and Nick. There wasn't much I needed feedback on as I am towards the end of both extended projects that I've been working on, however I'm sending Shana an invoice for the Bourbon Streat recipe kit designs by the end of tomorrow as I am basically finished with them.

I started by asking whether my invoice document and information was all correct, which they said was fine. I then showed them the actual designs of each of the recipe kits for some further feedback and any last tweaks that I would need to make.

Comments from feedback:

  • Print off the recipe kits with nets to see what they look like physically and if anything needs re-sizing
  • Get rid of the hyphens on the 'Just add' and 'This kit contains' could I separate them a different way? spacing or symbols maybe
  • Send over the invoice and designs as PDFs when I do
  • Make some of the type bigger such as the 'just add' and 'this kit contains' as when you're cooking something you want to be able to quickly read what it says
  • Add the sides- these will just be block colours maybe with the illustrations on as Shana only specifically asked me to do the designs for the front and back and stated what exactly she wanted on each side.
  • Fill some of the negative space- This could be easy to do when re-sizing some of the text bigger and could also add additional illustrations

I then went and printed physical versions of one of the recipe kits to see what and if anything needs re-sizing or changing. It was important for me to do this as these recipe kits will be physically printed in the end and sold, so they need to be spot on.

I then organised a little group crit with my table in which I showed the physical mockups as well as a sheet which people could write on.

Notes from crit:

  • Double check the spelling for some of the words on the back, do this with the other 2 kits as well. Before sending Shana the PDFs tomorrow, I will get my peers to proof read the fronts and backs
  • Could be barcode on the back go on the side?
  • The 'holy trinity: celery, bell pepper and onion' bit looks a bit off as it's smaller. We discussed that this was because it's longer than the rest of the ingredients within the pie chart, we came up with the idea to have the 'holy trinity' in the same size as the rest and then the 'celery, bell pepper and onion' can be smaller
  • For the pie chart on the back, the order of the words should go in size order within each section, e.g. Tofu, Shrimp and then Chicken Thighs
  • See what the title on the front looks like bigger, as this is the first thing you see when you look at a recipe kit- it needs a different hierarchy

I found this feedback really useful as well as what Amber and Nick mentioned, it definitely helped to see what the recipe kits look like physically. I will make the changes to the designs this evening so the PDFs and invoice are ready to send over to Shana tomorrow.
