I was unsure about the wave backgrounds as I felt that they were too neat and contrasting against the busy and experimental collages on top, so it was useful to see if peers agreed with this
Feedback:
- More texture on the backgrounds
- Texture on top of the pattern backgrounds
- Some peers quite liked the waves but it was agreed that they were a bit too neat compared to the experimental collages, the contrast needs to be increased or decreased perhaps
- Experiment with brush stroke texture/paint texture- could use physical paint and scan in?
- Make the stickers that go on the vinyl and then buy some cheap vinyl from somewhere to actually use
Following this feedback, I have developed the backgrounds further through using more psychedelic, textural backgrounds that are less neat than the wavy backgrounds. The psychedelic aesthetic also relates better to the concept of the track which is very funky and smooth. I showed these designs to peers compared to the old designs with the wave backgrounds and they agreed that these worked better.
I will show these designs in tomorrows group crit. My plan was to have these finished by the end of this week, however I will be extending it to next week as I'll probably have some areas to develop after tomorrows crit and also plan to create the sticker designs to go on the vinyl, the stickers and vinyl covers will then need printing and photographing.
This week I will visit some vintage shops to buy some cheap single vinyl that are the same size as the covers (182mm x 182mm). This will also allow me to measure the dimensions for the round vinyl stickers which I will be designing next.
