Portfolio Crits Feedback

This weeks session was based on portfolio crits, I found this really useful as it was great to see other people's portfolios and how I could use this to improve mine as well as acknowledging things to avoid within my portfolio. I felt that this was one of the most useful PPP sessions we've had so far

Before the crit, we were asked to prepare 3 questions that we want people to answer about our portfolios, my 3 questions were:

1. Should the backgrounds not be white? e.g should the photographs cover the page?
2. Any additional things to add or remove? such as descriptions to add
3. Does it reflect my personality and design practice well?

After giving this feedback, for the last round we were to ask a further 3 questions:

1. What works well?
2. What could work better?
3. What would you like to see more of?

I was given a lot of good feedback which I was pleased with as well as some helpful tips and ideas for how to improve my portfolio further. A lot of the same comments were repeated so I will definitely acting on these.

However, some of the comments were quite contradictory as some mentioned that certain layouts could be developed, whereas as some comments mentioned that the layout worked well and was consistent.

The most useful and interesting comments given:

• Use the pink as a background, shows your personality, use a mixture of half page and full page images
• Could add your logo to the corner of each page to create consistency
• A short description for each project would be nice- describe the outcomes and intentions, this is important in the Bratz collaboration to describe how you were involved
• Keep the descriptions to a short paragraph when I add them in
• Your personality shines through well, however see how far you could push it- add in some mixed media elements to the portfolio itself
• Reflects your personality well- could you add some more personal touches?
• Could try taking one colour from each project to use as a background colour
• Good variety of work
• Where the photos almost fill the page the white works well as a border for them. I like the photos as cover pages but on some of them the writing is less clear
• For the Bratz project, it's quite hard to tell what it is/what it's for?
• Like the proccesses you've shown, it really is reflective of your manifesto
• Add more consistency to the layout in areas
• Clear layout with easily viewable images
• The photographs for the Durex campaign and Bratz project are really good so could you spread them out a bit more?
• Typeface and about page is clear and easy to read
