Press Coverage

Todays PPP session was about press coverage and how to basically put ourselves out there more/promote ourselves. We were then set the task to write a fictional feature about ourselves (around 500 words) as well as aiming to at some point this year get ourselves some sort of press coverage and get re-posted.

Accounts to get in touch with/tag in posts to get reposted on Instagram:

  • @curatory__
  • @graphic.directory
  • @typegoodness

For the fictional feature task I have decided to focus it on a project that I did last year about the effects of social media- this included a publication with a cover, stickers, typographic animations and an Instagram page.

Fictional feature (ItsNiceThat):

Title: Campaign 'How Social Media Affects You' by Graphic Designer Laveeza informs today's youth on how social media may be affecting them in more ways that they think

The campaign ‘How Social Media Affects You’ aims to inform the young audience on how severely social media may be affecting them and the specific ways in which this happens. The campaign informs the audience on how social media has more negative effects on them than they may initially think and the extents that it can affect them to. This is achieved through heavy impacting language, facts and statistics throughout.

The end aim of the campaign is to then provide the audience information and advice on how to overcome the issues of social media and how they can create a better online experience for themselves. The campaign starts by educating and informing the audience on the issue, and then providing help, meaning that the campaign then has a positive impact on them. This is important as the effects of social media are rapidly growing.

The audience for the campaign is 18-24 year olds as research shows that they are most active on social media. This informs the bold, youthful aesthetic used for the publication, posters and stickers. Whereas the social media elements use a monochrome aesthetic in order to communicate the ‘dark side’ of social media.

The campaign is split into 4 different areas which merge together to create the bigger issue:

1. How it reflects our relationships with other people: Fuck FOMO
2. The effects it has on our self esteem and mental health: You
3. The fake, manipulated version of ourselves that we choose to display online: Is This Real?
4. The effects it has on our communication skills: Talk To Me

The campaign consists of 4 animated posters, a publication, stickers and a social media platform. The Instagram aims to communicate the 'dark side' of social media through stating the effects of social media by using engaging language and making it personal to the reader. Whereas the aim of the publication is to communicate the message in full depth and inform the audience on the issue. The publication starts with an introduction page which provides a brief description to the publication and how the publication is split into the 4 areas to the issue. The publication then has a section for each of the 4 areas which are heavily content and language based. The end pages of the publication provides information and advice on ‘How To Break Free’ from social media affecting them, as the aim of the campaign is to help the audience.

This week I will research into ways of getting myself re-posted on different accounts and websites.
