Over the past 2 days I have been developing the 3 cover designs for the track Come Over, I have stuck with the idea of each of the 3 designs communicating the different stages that the song discusses (Wanting the person you're in this situation with to come over and/or convincing them, the night that they’re there/when they arrive and the next day in bed with them).
I started with creating a mind maps for each of the 3 stages/concepts, specifically through imagery, text and colours that could be used to communicate what is happening at that stage.
I also created some sketches of how the imagery could be shown on each of the 3 covers, they would all follow the same design concept in order to create consistency and communicate that idea of the 3 stages within the song. These ideas included digital collage, patterns, illustration and type and combinations of two ideas together such as illustration and type or pattern and digital collage.

I decided to go with the idea of digital collage- the designs must be heavily image based as you can't use the artists name or track title on the cover, the only type I'd probably use are short song lyrics/words associated with each of the concepts/stages. I also love digital collage but haven't yet experimented with it much in any of my briefs this year so far, so I thought this would be a great opportunity to. The song is also very funky which makes digital collage relevant as it allows images to be combined in a funky, unique and weird ways.
Below show some initial collage designs for stage 1 and stage 3.

When developing the 3 covers, I decided to add some text. The text relates to lyrics from the track that are relevant to each stage, for example the text used for stage 3 (spending the next day in bed with that person) is "Wake with the sunrise, sleep in it's alright". I experimented with two different type faces (Shagadelic and Keep on Truckin) which have a funky, groovy aesthetic to them which relates to the track; smooth, R&B, funky.
However, the designs definitely looked better purely image based as the collages are already quite busy, fun and unique the type didn't really fit in or create the contrast that was hoped for.
The designs were then developed sticking to just image. The first cover uses imagery of night time and late night texting/booty calls (getting the person to come over late at night), the second cover uses imagery of a bed, drinks, kisses and butterflies which are also relevant to the track as it discusses how the girl she is singing about gives her butterflies when she finally comes over and they get closer in together whilst drinking, cuddling and chatting till early hours. The third concept uses imagery of music and chilling in bed together the next day, it also uses photographs which could've been taken together the night before- linking the different concepts and designs together.
