The Internet Band/Track Research

I have now decided which track and artist I want to choose for the vinyl design, I was stuck between Toast by Koffee or Come Over by The Internet as I've loved both songs for a while, however I decided to go with Come Over.

I listened to both tracks several times and watched the music videos for both, Toast has more of a Reggae and dancey vibe, whereas Come Over is more R&B and romantic. I decided to go with Come Over as I felt that the track had a lot more emotion and romance to it which I liked and think creating work based on this type of feeling and aesthetic would be a lot more interesting.

I have also seen The Internet live a couple years back and felt that I had a lot more connection to the song for this reason as it is associated with memories.

The Internet is an American band from LA. It currently consists of vocalist Syd, keyboardist Matt Martians, bassist Patrick Paige II, drummer Christopher Smith, and guitarist Steve Lacy. Their music is a blend of R&B, hip hop, jazz, funk, and electronic dance music, but would generally come under the music genres of R&B and jazzy hip hop.

I also watched The Genius video for the track Come Over in which Syd (main vocalist) explains the lyrics and meaning behind the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXougB8ppc0. The track is simply inspired by a girl that Syd liked in the past but the girl would sometimes pretend that she wouldn't want her to come over- the track elaborates on this situation that Syd was in.

'With “Come Over,” the Internet turn the most basic conceit of wanting a crush to come over into something a little more artful and a lot more complicated.' - https://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/the-internet-come-over/

My favourite lines from the song that may inspire the art work that I create:
  • "Puppy love, butterflies"
  • "I'll bring the champaign, don't turn me down babe"
  • "Wake with the sunrise. Sleep in, it's alright"

More notes about the song and its feel/aesthetic:
  • Young love
  • Protection, cuddles, warmth
  • The feeling of wanting some/being with someone that gives you that feeling
  • Late nights/late night texting
  • Spending the day in bed with that person
  • Comfort
  • Deep, rich colours and/or soft colours
