I explained to Dom my essay structure and the different points I will make throughout my essay which all relate back to the question, I also explained how each point I will make/case study will relate back to previous and further points made throughout the essay.
I was mainly concerned whether the links between my practical and essay were strong enough as this is what I have slipped on in previous years. Dom mentioned that the links were clearly there and that what I'm exploring in my practical was very relevant towards my essay which was a relief.
We also reworded the question as I felt it was too long and only mentioned one of the points that I am mentioning in my essay, not the discussion as a whole.
New question:
Should Graphic Designers have a cultural awareness and how does this impact the design process?
Notes from discussion:
- Good that I have ethical considerations within my essay (stereotypical design, being culturally appropriate)
- Could include subheadings within my essay as I'm making different points, but they do all link together anyway
- The first sentence in the essay is a question within itself- could this be used as the question if it works better???
- Aim it towards a larger audience in the way I discuss things sometimes, not just towards Graphic Designers (consider fashion designers, product designers etc)
- When I discuss fashion design theories/case studies, link that back to how Graphic Design impacts fashion
- Don't repeat yourself too much in the intro- cut some bits out
- The first quote in the intro could be moved up to the first or second paragraph as it's more relevant there
- Point, then quote, and then analyse
- More quotes with each point I make
- The personal experiences paragraph in the intro may be more relevant a bit further down...keep a shortened version in the intro though
- 'How do we eat' paragraph can be shorter- doesn't need to be this long. Make it like the SizeChina case study paragraph
- Case study per section
- Less descriptions, more analysing
- Message some studios and designers!
