Time- Management and Making the most your time

This weeks PPP session focused on time management and planning. This session was important, even though I feel like I am quite organised already, it's nice to have a reminder about things.

I already have a daily to-do list on notes in my phone that I update daily and also a calendar on my wall at home which I add to frequently when I know exactly what I need to do depending on the week before, my time and social plans. I also have stickies on my wall next to my calendar.

My calender and stickies on my wall

-Don't try to change things overnight
-Set annual goals (3-10)
-Break those bigger plans into a weekly system
-It's okay to have a day off

I always carry on working in the evenings when getting back from uni- this is bad! the fact that I feel like I have to keep going even though I've gotten enough work done in the day, I shouldn't feel like this. However, I do still make time for my social life a few times a week which I think is important, this often means I'm always either doing work or out and about with friends- I rarely spend a day by myself but I prefer being active and doing things.

So, it was particularly useful in the session when Alec mentioned that working through the evenings after work hours isn't ideal and that you should give yourself time off. I need to remember this.

1. Three priorities for the week
2. Three priorities for the day
3. Three wins for the week

Don't forget to stop and pat yourself on the back!

Focus techniques:

  • Pomodoro- Work in 25 minute bursts, followed by a 5 minute break. Then each fourth cycle, take a 15 minute break
  • Eat the frog- Start your day with the most daunting task. Give it 100% of your focus until its complete
  • Get things done- Organise into next action, something maybe and waiting for

App and Software:
  • Cross off list
  • Marinara- Chrome timer
  • Self control app (doesn't let you go on certain apps/websites till the time you set is up)

I think the focus technique that I will use the most is eat the frog and the software/app that I will use the most is the self control app.

Stage 1: Set annual goals
Stage 2: Set goals for each term
Stage 3: Create an hourly plan for your ideal work week, ensuring that it works towards your term and annual goals
Stage 4: Experiment with one new positive habit for the week

1. Annual goals:
1. Push yourself
2. Speak to ask many people as possible- connections and collaborations!

2. Term:
1. Get COP done
2. 3 Extended practice briefs done by Christmas
3. Don't forget to make some time for yourself too, e.g don't have to work in the evenings!!!

3. Hourly plan this week:

4. Experiment with some productivity- eat the frog and self control app

5. Post plan to Padlet
