Front Design Development

Today I have been developing the front designs for the recipe-kits further. I started with the main hero flavour development as all 3 designs will have the same layout just different colours and imagery, so once I have a solid design for the front and back, I can begin to apply it to the other 2. I started with applying the Bourbon Streat main font to the subheadings and titles (Blaeu Brush).

Below shows the 2 designs out of the 3 that I did on Tuesday, these were the 2 designs that my peers said worked the best when I did a quick vote.

My peers mentioned that they liked the border and colour of the second circle in the first design more, but that the layout of the second design worked better in terms of the different text and titles placements.

I developed the design further through combining the two designs together through the comments that were made, I simply applied the border to the second design and changed the colour of the second circle. This worked much better.

Furthermore, I felt that the background needed some imagery. In the competition and inspiration recipe kit boxes, I found that often the packaging that use funky and pattern based background work quite well. Below shows a quick experiment I did with some circles.

However, I felt that the circles really didn't add much to the design, they felt a little uneccessary. In this case, less was more.

I also changed the second font (that is used for the block text) from Questrial to Quicksand. I felt that Quicksand was a lot more interesting as it has a lighter, more fun aesthetic, which is more appropriate for the brand in order to represent their unique, vibrant recipes.

Below shows the design updated with Quicksand as well as an initial start to the back design.

Furthermore, since I have a rough main layout for the front I applied it to the other two recipes:

The main issue was the contrasting colours for the Canjun Jambalaya Rice recipe box. The other two flavours' designs colours work well together but I wasn't completely happy with the two main colours of this flavour together, so I tried out two different variations. I prefer the Midnight Blue background with the Orange text out of the two.

I will still continue to tweak the front designs further when Shana sends over the illustrations for each recipe tomorrow morning. I will also update the logo with the new logo when it is finalised and sent to me.
