Initial Designs

Me and Jake have now started to develop initial designs for the Visual Media Conference further. We decided to stick with the idea of using a young and vibrant aesthetic which relates to people being able to express themselves, have flexibility and freedom through detailing that communicates this including colour, effects, shapes and symbols.

We each started by creating some symbols which we felt were more interesting than regular basic shapes like squares and triangles and instead used shapes that were more fun and that represented individuality.

Below shows my initial 6 shapes.

Me and Jake then showed each other our shapes and decided on a top 5 to use and develop further, the shapes were then developed further through adding colour and experimental gradient effects.

Colour and gradient

We know that we definitely want to use some kind of interesting gradient/texture across the branding within details and backgrounds but we aren't too sure what area to go down yet so we will need to do some further research on how we can communicate the concept with details like this. Below shows some initial quick experiments using texture and gradients within the colour palette.

I then experimented further with creating some quick speaker screen designs and background experiments using the colour palette, shapes and gradient textures to see whether they all work together.

However, I wasn't too sure if they all worked and I also felt that the colour palette gave too much of a playful and young aesthetic instead of communicating individuality and freedom in a sleeker way, Jake also agreed with this so we may consider re-thinking the colour palette and gradients idea.
