Design Development

Today I have started to develop designs that can be used for backgrounds and additional detailing using the shapes and colours in different scales, compositions and colour combinations. The designs experiment with bold flat colour and gradients- yesterday we decided that the gradient didn't work in all contexts so today I've experimented with it in different ways.

The speaker screen experiments would display the speakers name and possibly a description about them if required or their profession. We don't yet know the speakers for 2021 so I used our concept title as a placeholder and names of last years speakers.

Below shows developed speaker screen experiments using just the speakers name. Me and Jake both agreed that the eligibility on the gradient text version could be an issue, however the speaker screens would be quite large scale so this might not actually be an issue. 

At the moment I prefer version 1 as it's more bold and legible but I do like the gradient on version 2 as it's more fun and experimental which relates more to our concept. We were having some difficultly agreeing on what to take further so we will ask peers on what they think as well.

Jake developed the typeface further through creating a full alphabet, this was needed as the type needs to be consistent across the branding and the experimental custom typeface will be used for headings and names of speakers.
