Childhood Self-Care Package Idea

I have now started to brain storm some more ideas for the childhood self care method brief. After a discussion with peers, it was mentioned that I could create an app that encourages people to use more of their hobbies from childhood as self care methods in which people can share these activities with others through the app and encourage them as well. However, I'm not a huge fan of app design and don't really want to go into it after uni, my design practice is more design for print.

Another idea was to create some beautiful designed and illustrated cards which communicate different childhood related self care tasks for people to do. I really like this idea as it's a lot more me and I feel that something physical will have more of an impact on people.

The aim for this package would be to help adults break away from all the stress in life buy doing something that takes them back to being carefree as a child.

The idea would be for people to choose a card at the start of every week in which they have to at some point do the childhood related activity as a self care during that week.

Ideas for the tasks and activities:

  • Revisit your favourite book from childhood
  • Go to the park
  • Arrange a dinner/tea party at your place with your best pals! strictly no alcohol
  • Buy a DIY kit of your choice
  • Buy some paint and a large canvas and let the creativity begin!
  • Board games night
  • Buy a colouring book and dedicate at least half an hour to colouring a page of your choice
  • Watch your favourite movie from childhood
  • Work on a Jigsaw puzzle, it can be as simple or complex as you like
  • Dig out your favourite toys/childhood teddy
  • Organise or just go and do your favourite physical activity from childhood, e.g. go swimming, join a dance class, organise a game of rounders in the park

Im definitely excited by the idea of this brief and feel passionate about it, in order to gather further first hand research on it I will create a survey and ask people what their favourite activities and hobbies were as children- this will help me come up with some more refined tasks and activities for the cards.
