This project was one of my favourite projects that I have worked on for 603, mainly because it was based on something I am passionate about and have been since childhood: Bratz dolls. The collaboration with Illustrator Clare was really successful as she also shares this passion, I’d also been a fan of her work for a while as it’s very feminine and funky which is very up my street.
The nostalgic 2000’s Bratz aesthetic was captured well throughout the designs which was aimed for, peer feedback also suggested that this was clear to see throughout each element created.
I also really enjoyed this brief as I was able to create several physical outcomes that worked together as a collection, this was suited to me as my design practice mainly focuses on design for print. The main outcome was of course the Lookbook, but the additional designs created for the freebie products and sticker sheets that come with the Lookbook made the overall final outcome a lot more exciting.
Clare was really happy with the end result of the Lookbook, she mentioned that she loved the whole aesthetic and 2000's Bratz feel as it was very her style as well as mine which is why this collaboration was perfect. I mentioned that if she needed any design work doing in the future such as personal branding or any type of promotional material then I'd be more than happy to help design this, she said she'd take me up on this offer in the new year.
Me and Clare would meet up every week or two in which I would show her where I am up to with my designs and research, we also created a google drive file in which she would put her illustrations in which I was then able to add into the Lookbook whilst developing it. I felt that me and Clare worked really well together as our design aesthetics and interests are very similar and the communication throughout this project was great.
Doing a passion project like this made me realise that I should continue to do more passion projects throughout the year as I enjoy them so much, which means I rarely hit creative blocks throughout the process.
