Job Hunting- Final PPP Sessions

This morning was our final PPP session which was about Job hunting, basically our future as designers. I felt that this session was one of the most useful ones over the lockdown period and was a great way to end the PPP sessions. I gained a lot of useful tips that I'd forgotten as well as sites to use to apply to jobs that I hadn't used before.

A point Alec mentioned that I found motivating and useful in this weird time is that there is no need to panic as creativity is always going to be in demand.

When I apply to jobs I usually use LinkedIn but I’ve also used if you could, fashion workie, Instagram and findyourintern before. Below is a list of platforms that Alec mentioned are best for job hunting:

  • If you could
  • The dots (paid internships)
  • Linkedin (the best! One of the best ones out there)
  • Lecture in progress (it’s not just jobs, it’s also residencies, internships, competition briefs etc)
  • Instagram
  • DJB

What strategies from PPP can and should you deploy when applying to a job?

  • Personalised emails/tone of voice
  • Making a specific approach directed at a studio you might want to work with
  • Knowing your value and how you can add value to them
  • Sending them a product prior to the email
